CUBRe Advert for Full Stack Software Engineer / Full Stack Web Developer

Introduction

Are you looking for a challenging role in web application development? The Covenant university bioinformatics research team is looking for an experience senior software developer ready to contribute to the development of various applications for its research team.

Your role:

  • Taking on development role using Spring framework, Node JS and and React to develop web
  • Work with and train junior web developers to build cutting edge web applications to provide services to hundred of thousands of users in the academia and industry worldwide.
  • Presenting complex biological data to users in intuitive, visually appealing ways.
  • Developing Web interface, integrating a range of new search and query features that focus on biological data.
  • Develop new web-based tools including heatmaps, network projections as well as integrating existing tools from other resources for the CUBRe

You have

  • BSc in Computer Science, or related. Equivalent, demonstrated professional experience will be considered.
  • Experience in Java, JavaEE and web applications development using Spring frameworks and Hibernate ORM, Thymeleaf.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience developing full stack applications in Java and supporting production systems in a team environment.
  • OO Design patterns, TDD and continuous integration/continuous development.
  • Javascript ES7/8 and Node.js familiarity with modern web frameworks (React preferably)
  • Familiarity with single page applications, HTTP semantics, REST APIs, Graph QL APIs, experienced handling JSON data from RESTful services.
  • You should have an excellent knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3 and experience of building cross-platform, responsive websites.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases such as MySQL, MongoDB.
  • The ideal candidate will be familiar with Agile methodologies, development best practices and have experience of using source control systems, such as Git/Github/Gitlab.
  • Excellent communication skills, and proven experience in collaborative development projects
  • A good understanding of browser rendering behaviour and performance, and relish working on projects with complex requirements and be able to solve problems creatively and effectively.

 

You might also have

  • Experience in handling large data volumes (TBs of scientific data)
  • Experience with standard development tools (continuous integration e.g. Jenkins, build management e.g. Maven, etc).
  • Experience with cloud compute environments (e.g. AWS)
  • Experience with software containerisation (e.g. Docker, Singularity)
  • Basic Linux administration skills with solid command line/shell scripting
  • Strong understanding of modern REST API architecture and the concepts of Authentication and Authorisation in modern web applications
  • Understanding of good coding practices and approaches (OOP, IoC, automated testing, clean code principles, code review
  • Interest in data visualisation for the web (D3, Canvas, SVG)
  • Experience of writing scientific papers and reports
